INVADERS

NHK - Japan
Documentary

Invasive exotic species are the second largest threat to the balance of global biodiversity, second only to deforestation. In Brazil, the world's most biodiverse territory, their consequences are even more disastrous. "Invaders" follows the ecological challenges faced by scientists and communities dedicated to combating the relentless advance of these intruders: the spread of wild boars through rural landscapes; the invasion of sun coral in the protected waters of the Alcatrazes Archipelago; the predatory impact of domestic cats and tegu lizards on the native inhabitants of Fernando de Noronha; and the insidious march of the golden mussel, paralyzing hydroelectric plants across Brazil. Against the backdrop of stunning natural ecosystems, 'Invaders' delves into recent research, offering new perspectives on biodiversity and climate change. An immersive journey that underscores the vital importance of protecting the diverse forms of life on our planet.
