Lygia Maria Barbosa da Silva, a director with a solid career in television series and documentaries. She was the executive producer and director of Laerte-se, Netflix's first original Brazilian documentary.
With over 10 years of partnership with South Korea, Lygia directed and produced Haenyeo: Wisdom of the Sea (NatGeo/TV Cultura) — a project sponsored by KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) — as well as Temple Flavours: The Simplicity of Healing. She also directed two seasons of the series Mar Brasil, exploring the Brazilian coastline (Globoplay and Futura), and the documentaries Wallace, the Other Darwin and Fisher's Voice, co-produced with Kim Jin Hyuk and sponsored by KCA (Korea Communications Agency).
Her other co-production with Korean partners, Untenable Pantanal, was internationally awarded. Among her early works, the series Across the Amazon stands out — an unprecedented expedition that traveled across South America from its extremes, east to west.
Lygia is currently finalizing a new documentary for Netflix and two others: Laurie Marker: A Future of Coexistence (filmed in Africa), as well as Fisher's Voice, a project filmed across 6 countries and endorsed by UNESCO, reaffirming her commitment to impactful narratives and an innovative approach to documentary filmmaking.
Lygia is also a co-founder of the Women’s League for the Ocean (Liga das Mulheres pelo Oceano).
